Venus retrograde
A second look at love, money and what you really value.
Every so often a planet seems to stop and drift backwards across the sky. It isn't really reversing, but astrologers read these stretches as a time to review rather than rush.
- How often
- About once every eighteen months.
- How long
- Around six weeks.
- Next
- Venus is retrograde now, until 15 Nov 2026. The next one is 12 May to 24 Jun 2028. Dates are approximate, give or take a day.
What's happening
Venus appears to retreat across the sky, which happens when Earth passes it. Astrologers say it asks you to look again at what you love, what you value and who you keep coming back to.
Making the most of it
Notice what you actually want from love and money before making a big move.
What it tends to feel like
Old feelings come back. An ex gets in touch, or you find yourself scrolling through old photos. You may question a relationship, a spending habit or your sense of style. It can feel unsettled, but it is mostly about noticing what you actually want.
What to be careful with
Big changes to how you look, such as a dramatic haircut, starting a relationship on the rebound, large purchases you have not thought through, and getting back together with someone just because they texted. Give it until Venus moves forward before you decide.
What it is good for
Looking honestly at your relationships, your budget and what you spend your time on. Repairing a friendship, rethinking what you need from a partner, going through your wardrobe and asking whether your money matches your values are all good uses of a Venus retrograde.
How it differs from Mercury retrograde
Venus turns retrograde much less often, about every eighteen months, and for longer, around six weeks. Because it is rarer, astrologers treat it as a bigger moment for relationships, though it is still a time to review rather than a time when things break.
Born with Venus retrograde
If Venus was retrograde when you were born, you may take longer to work out what you like, or love in ways that do not follow the usual script. People with this placement often value depth and history in their relationships over a fast start.
When it ends
Once Venus turns direct, the themes it brought up start moving forward again.
Venus retrograde in each house
You feel it most in the house of your chart it is moving through. Here is what Venus brings to each one. When it is retrograde, the same themes come back for a second look.
Why planets seem to go backwards
Planets never actually reverse. We watch them from Earth, which is also moving, so now and then one appears to slow, stop and drift back across the sky, the way a car you overtake on the motorway seems to slide backwards. Astrologers call this retrograde. They read it as a time to revisit, review and redo rather than push ahead, and the effect is felt most in the house the planet is passing through.
