Jupiter retrograde
A pause in growth, so you can look at what you have already gained.
Every so often a planet seems to stop and drift backwards across the sky. It isn't really reversing, but astrologers read these stretches as a time to review rather than rush.

What's happening
Jupiter looks like it drifts backwards for a while, an effect of Earth overtaking the giant planet. Astrologers say it turns your growth inward, asking what you truly believe and want to expand.
Making the most of it
Review your bigger goals and trim the ones that no longer feel like yours.
What it tends to feel like
Things that were growing quickly slow down. Opportunities feel further away, and it can seem like luck has gone quiet. In practice it is a pause to take stock rather than a loss, and many people find it a calmer, more inward time.
What to be careful with
Overcommitting, taking big gambles and expecting outside events to rescue you. Jupiter retrograde rewards working with what you already have rather than reaching for more.
What it is good for
Reflecting on your beliefs, going back to study you left off, planning travel rather than taking it, and noticing the good things you already have. It is a good time to ask what you actually want to grow in your life.
How often and how long
Jupiter is retrograde about once a year for around four months, so roughly a third of the time. Because it is so common, it is a background mood rather than a big event, unless it is moving through an important part of your chart.
Born with Jupiter retrograde
If Jupiter was retrograde when you were born, your sense of meaning and luck may come from within rather than from outside approval. You may build your own beliefs rather than borrowing them.
When it ends
Once Jupiter turns direct, the themes it brought up start moving forward again.
Jupiter retrograde in each house
You feel it most in the house of your chart it is moving through. Here is what Jupiter brings to each one. When it is retrograde, the same themes come back for a second look.
Why planets seem to go backwards
Planets never actually reverse. We watch them from Earth, which is also moving, so now and then one appears to slow, stop and drift back across the sky, the way a car you overtake on the motorway seems to slide backwards. Astrologers call this retrograde. They read it as a time to revisit, review and redo rather than push ahead, and the effect is felt most in the house the planet is passing through.
About Jupiter
Jupiter is expansion: luck, optimism, generosity and the feeling that more is possible. It makes things bigger, which is lovely for good things and less lovely for overcommitment.
